Phonics phones are a creative teaching tool for students to use during guided reading. They are also extremely helpful when peer editing during writing activities. Students place phonics phones to their ear and whisper sounds, words, or passages to reinforce the correct words and sounds (phonemes). This strategy helps students self-correct any miscues they may have made in their reading or writing.
