The Apron Ladies began as a collective idea to help teachers guide young readers to love learning to read and reading to learn. Beth Stevens and Terri Heidger are two Sarasota County, FL teachers who share common educational experiences, values and vision. They started a small business, The Apron Ladies, based on an original idea and philosophy of how young readers develop into strategic readers. The Good Reader Apron is a tool for teachers to build good readers one block at a time. The ladies, Beth and Terri have degrees in Reading, Specific Learning Disabilities, and Elementary Education with a combined educational experience of over 50 years.

The Apron Ladies have expanded their product line to include math, writing and comprehension "smart smocks" as well as Table-Top Strategies, Phonics Phones and "Read-It-Write" wristbands. Terri and Beth have recently co-authored flip books that accompany their Good Reader and Good Comprehension Aprons. Become A Good Reader…Six Simple Steps ISBN 13: 978-1-934338-13-1 and Ready-To-Go Comprehension ISBN 13: 978-1-934338-64-3 are both available at www.maupinhouse.com.

In addition to teaching, they have enjoyed presenting at the Florida Reading Association State Conferences, the International Reading Association National Conferences, Southeast International Reading Association and at local conferences across the South East. They also provide literacy training and professional development for schools and districts across the country.
